Hearing Aid Troubleshooting

Routine maintenance and care will prevent many but not all hearing instrument malfunctions.  The hearing aids need to be cleaned daily.  You can wipe them with a tissue or a soft cloth.  Store your hearing aids and batteries in a safe and dry place out of the reach of children and pets.   Always open the battery door at night to allow humidity to escape from the aids and to maximize battery life.  If you perspire heavily or live at the beach, you may need to use a "DRI-Aid Kit" when the aids are not being used.

• Do not let your hearing aid get wet !
• Do not expose your hearing aids to excessive moisture or heat !
• Do not drop your hearing aids on hard floors !
• Do not use hair spray while the aids are in your ears !

Cleaning

 A wax cleaning brush or loop may be dispensed at the time of your hearing aid fitting.  To use this tool, hold the hearing aid so that the sound-bore (the open end which is inserted in the ear) is facing downward.  Gently sweep the brush across the canal opening. Take care not to push the debris further into the tubing at the end of the hearing aids.  Some hearing aids have wax guards that must be replaced periodically.  Ask your audiologist if your aids are equipped with a guard.
